OUR COMMUNITYVolunteers of the Edmonton Folk Music Festival come primarily from the Edmonton region but also come from across Canada and elsewhere. They also represent all ages and walks of life and work cooperatively on the 46 crews that put the festival together. Some volunteers contribute professional expertise while others choose to do something entirely different from their everyday activities.
Why Do Folk Festival Volunteers Choose to Volunteer?
Volunteers report a variety of motivation:
On this latter interest, some volunteers make lasting friendships and find partners at the Festival. And some children of volunteers grow up and become volunteers.
Some of our volunteers have been with the festival since 1980. Some had their first festival experience as babies and are now crew coordinators. Some are content to contribute the mandatory 20 hours over the festival weekend. Others become involved as coordinators, members, committee members and board members. All contributions are valuable. New volunteers are always welcome and we hope they find their volunteer experience one that they wish to repeat.
