Oyster Band
This
is the British rogue folk group's third festival appearance since their legendary debut in 1987. The band was then only in its second year and had already developed a reputation which earned them the Saturday night closing slot.
Where they really made their name, however, was at the volunteer party later that night. People still talk about the performance-nothing less than a "Mach 4 with their hair on fire" set.
Was it really that good? Well, best ask one of the Oysters. When the group returned to the festival in 1991, a member was asked if he recalled the set. His recollection was immediate, "it was probably the best we've ever played live."
The 1997 lineup is purportedly their strongest assemblage ever: John Jones, 'Chopper' Ray Cooper, Ian Telfer, Alan Prosser, Aleric Neville and Lee Partis.
