Wendy McNeill

Wendy McNeill returned from the west coast in time to participate in-and win-the Old Strathcona Singer-Songwriter Competition. Although she may be a new face as a performer, she knows the festival well-she's spent the last few years as a volunteer.

Five years ago, Wendy got her start with guitar while studying dance at Grant MacEwan. Her interest in playing came almost by accident. "Grant MacEwan is a weird school because the dancers and the musicians are on the same floor," says Wendy.

She's been playing seriously for three years while supporting herself through choreography and dance, and, although she's moved around for most of her life, Edmonton has been her home for the past seven years. Her lyrics are based on personal experience and strong emotional themes, yet her percussive guitar playing and you've-gotta-laugh attitude keep things upbeat.
