Del McCoury Band
When talking about bluegrass music, it's hard not to think of the Del McCoury Band. After four decades of performing to audiences around the globe, Del McCoury has established himself with his stringent rhythmic guitar and piercing tenor voice as a leader in traditional bluegrass music. "If Bill Monroe is the father of bluegrass, then surely Del McCoury is figuratively his number one son," says Bluegrass Unlimited.
Each
of the five members in the band is a highly talented and accomplished musician in his own right. Last year, each member was nominated for an International Bluegrass Music Association award for his own instrument, a first in the association's history. With Jason Carter on fiddle; Mike Bub on bass; and Del's two sons-Rob McCoury, on banjo, and Ronnie McCoury, on mandolin-Del makes music a family affair. Ronnie started performing with his father when he was only 14. Last year, Ronnie and Rob released their first album on their own, creating a solid place for themselves as part of the new generation of bluegrass.
