Tim and Mollie O'Brien and the O'Boys
Tim
and Mollie O'Brien and the O'Boys make their EFMF debut. Tim and Mollie O'Brien are singing siblings who first began making music together in church over 30 years while growing up in Wheeling, West Virginia. Since then, they've traveled musically through Appalachian, old-time country and folk duets to jazzy, bluesy offerings.
Their third, and most recent, album, Away Out on the Mountain, features mostly traditional material, from Leadbelly and A.P. Carter to Lucinda Williams and Pat McLaughlin. Billboard's 1994 review also cited the first recordings of "Nashville songwriting phenom Gillian Welch" as highlights of the album. Look forward to plenty of call and response and tightly-knit harmonies, accompanied by fiddle, guitar, mandolin or bouzouki.
Bluegrass fans will recall Tim as a member of Hot Rize, a group that won the Entertainers of the Year award from the International Bluegrass Music Association. He and Mollie have performed around the world, and at such popular American festivals as the Merle Watson Memorial Festival, the Badlands Music Festival and the Arvada Center for the Arts Summer Pops Series. Tim and Mollie are joined by Mark Schatz (bass) and Scott Nygaard (guitar).
