Night of Reckoning
The
concept of Indie recording labels conjures up musical images more commonly associated with grunge bands than established country artists. But the concept is gaining momentum in Nashville with the efforts of groups such as Night of Reckoning, which originates from the artist-owned and managed Dead Reckoning Records.
Comprised of songwriter/musicians who have been relatively successful with major labels, they've chosen to pursue their music on their own terms, rather than on those prescribed by the traditional record company executives. Kevin Welch, Kieran Kane, Mike Henderson, Don Heffington and Tammy Rogers, have all enjoyed success in their own bands, or playing for other performers.
Recall a half dozen Top 10 Country hits by the O'Kanes? Or perhaps Everyone Gets Crazy Now and Then by Roger Miller? Collective credentials include playing behind artists as Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell and Patty Loveless. Nashville may not be Austin, much less Seattle, but there are musicians who share the same spirit.
