Gillian Welch and David Rawlings
Gillian
Welch and David Rawlings are performing and songwriting partners who are part of a movement which is trying to bring Nashville into the '90s.
They moved to the home of the Grand Ole Opry in 1992, and while country and bluegrass have long been important influences, Welch and Rawlings met at the Berklee College of Music -- hardly a breeding ground for C&W. As such, they reflect a new breed of country musicians who have expanded their 'roots' to include such influences as the Velvet Underground alongside Bill Monroe.
"In some ways we are trying to be real traditional, like the Stanley Brothers," Welch says, "but we necessarily miss the mark because we grew up listening to Neil Diamond."
So, who else would she get to produce her debut album, Revival, but T-Bone Burnett? Look for more information on the Geffen Home Page: http://www.geffen.com/
