Bert Jansch
Bert Jansch's guitar style has been instantly recognizable
for some 30 years, and his playing has influenced a host of other guitarists.
For instance, Jimmy Page (yes, that Jimmy Page) has been quoted as citing
Jansch as his biggest, single influence. No? Compare Jansch's rendition
of Black Mountain Side to Page's later, Black Water Side.
But regardless of who has incorporated his playing into their work, Jansch has made his own way in a long, and varied career.
He was one of the original '60s British folk musicians, injecting blues and jazz sensibilities into traditional songs. Jansch recorded several solo albums before forming Pentangle with John Renbourn and Jacqui McShee. The group disbanded in 1973, and he has worked within a variety of personnel configurations since.
His most recent recording, When the Circus Comes to Town, combines his years of experience and songwriting.
